Enjoyed our stay

We enjoyed our stay there, the 1 bedroom apartment was fine. Only problem we had was the shower curtain was pretty filthy. But I asked the housekeeping boy to replace it and he did. It's no 5 star accommodation, but it was ok for us. The grounds were beautiful, the staff were very friendly. They cater for the Chinese market, so the resort was full of Chinese who were very loud. Breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice including an egg station, juices, toast, fruit, as well as Asian choices. The resort is not close to shops or restaurants but there was a free shuttle to Kuta and Nusa Dua which left 3 times a day, and they also picked you up. The swimming pool looked very nice, but we didn't use it.

What this member liked most:

We enjoyed the solitude, but was also able to go out on the free shuttle for meals. The grounds were beautiful.

It was lovely & clean but very old & needs lots of repairs.

The resort was a long way from any shops any beaches & transport. We found we had to spend a lot of time waiting for transport as the resort is isolated & not on any bus routes.

Basic but meet most of our needs

Goodway Hotel and Resort looked amazing on the web site and overall for the price paid, was value for money. Our very big apartment was exceptionally spacious and the living room and bedrooms, I believe, had been recently painted. The bathrooms really lowered the standard and star rating with very old tiles, dirty looking grout and basins. Any reported problems were quickly responded to and dealt with to the best of their ability. However the kitchen was old and very basic having had all cooking facilities and utensils etc removed due to a recent fire in weeks prior to our arrival. This meant we had to buy all our other meals from the resort or (live on 2 minute noodles.) There were no shops or restaurants near Goodway. A very big breakfast was included but catered more for the Asian tastes. My son did not really eat well there. The pool water seemed clean enough however loose tiles around the pool presented tripping risks . 40 years ago, this resort would have been stunning. The gardens are still well maintained and so windows had nice outlooks. The resort provided a much appreciated free shuttle pickup from the airport and free shuttle to and fro Kuta and other local places but only at a few set times during the day. Hence one needs to plan their time carefully to make the most of the shuttles or be prepared to spend money on taxis or hired drivers to get to tourist destinations. If you want to be away from the main tourist areas and don't mind basic accommodation, this resort will suit you. Staff were ALWAYS friendly enough but the lack of any English speaking staff made communicating needs difficult. The resort tries hard to please Australian tourists but we were the very small minority of guests.

Lovely setting but tired resort

This resort is away from all other restaurants, shops and activities. It does run a free, friendly, efficient shuttle to Nusa Dua shopping centre, Kuta Centro Mall and Pandawa beach 2or3 times a day. Free breakfasts but they were not very good. Often, not enough seating/tables to sit at for breakfast. Evening meals and lunches were nice and good value. Our room was dated and tired. Staff were friendly and tried hard but it seemed to us that management of staff and property was very poor.

Not for me

While the hotel foyer and pool area were very nice and the staff in the restaurant were wonderful and friendly, the room we had was not so good and needs a lot of sprucing up, we were the only westerners in the hotel which caters for large tour groups of Taiwanese and Chinese who are the messiest and noisiest people I have ever come across in a restaurant, they walked through the resort at 2am on more than one occassion being extremely noisy, they took over the pool area spreading themselves out so there was nowhere for us. Would we recommend it, no.
