Mabalingwe Nature Reserve
Warmbaths, South Africa
Mabalingwe Nature Reserve, “The Place of the Spotted Leopard”, is where the ultimate African experience begins and ends. Set amidst rolling hills and majestic mountains where breathtaking sunsets invite the call of the jackal and Africa’s Big 5 rule man and beast alike.
Nothing can equal the vivid memories of having lived the Mabalingwe experience. With no stress, no malaria and no pollution, days spent at Mabalingwe are a reminder of some of life's forgotten pleasures.
Mabalingwe offers accommodation from self-catering chalets to ensuite lodge rooms and rustic bush camps. Enjoy game viewing from open safari vehicles or atop the ambling gait of horses, with sleepovers at the various bush camps. For the more energetic there are a number of hiking trails on offer.
Spread over more than 12500 hectares of soft rolling hills, this malaria-free reserve is host to the big 5, and also hippo, giraffe, hyena and sable to name but a few of the 36 species of wildlife. For the bird lovers there are more than 250 species to be spotted.
In the tradition of 'something for everyone' there are a number of recreational activities to be found, or great fun to be had using some of the resort’s many facilities. After a memorable day of activities, relax with a superb meal in the Tshukudu restaurant, and then sip cocktails against the backdrop of the setting sun, listening to nocturnal calls of the wild.
Be sure to visit the famous ‘Kalahari Oasis’ for a cold beer or make a night of it sleep at the bush camp.
The range of accommodation options ensures that you can tailor your African experience any way you like.
Beginning with Tlou Lodge, made up of 53 stylish lodge units. All rooms have ensuite bathrooms and are equipped with phone, optional minibar and television facilities. There is a mixture of unit configurations ranging from full kitchen with state of the art appliances, to standard ‘all inclusive’ rooms.
There are also five thatched chalet camps stretching from Kubu Camp at the northern tip to the southernmost Ingwe Camp situated next to the main Mabalingwe Camp buildings. The chalets are self-catering complete with lounge, kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms.
Amongst other features of each chalet is the patio and braai area from where guests can enjoy some of Limpopo Province’s most remarkable sunsets.
However, for a real back to nature experience you may want to choose the Kalahari Tented Camp which is privately situated at the foot of the mountains rolling through Mabalingwe and is ideal for families. The camp consists of five luxury twin bedded tents with electricity, ensuite bathroom, refrigerator, coffee and tea making facilities – all joined by a wooden deck walkway. All tents are hidden between lush Bushveld trees and are private from each other. The central, fully equipped kitchen and lapa is easily accessible.
Walking distance from the luxury tents, you’ll find two person ‘dome’ tents, each on their own platform. A central kitchen, lapa and bathroom facilities are available in very close proximity.
At Mabalingwe you wil experience Africa in an open game drive vehicle. Wander through the home ranges of the rhino and buffalo, share a moment in the presence of the mighty elephant or come face-to-face with the highly elusive leopard. Game drives are available all through the day at different times.
