You can also look forward to Italian-styled bathrooms and home comforts like LCD TVs, a washing machine and dryer, and a full kitchen with granite bench-tops, as well as a dishwasher, full-sized oven and a microwave. You’ll also have secure undercover parking and security-controlled access to your apartment. Last but not least, you’ll enjoy the benefit of heat pumps, ideal for staying toasty in the winter. The Sands Nelson

The entrance into this accommodation from no one at the front desk to the literal area via the garage makes you wonder what you are going to encounter, but the rooms are lovely and very clean. The unusual bedroom centred in the middle of the building with only a small very high window is essential as the noise once you open the decking door is loud both from the road and from the bar below. Because it was dark we did sleep in quite a bit. My only criticism would be the very dirty and noisy decking, we looked directly down onto the patrons in the bar and were told in no uncertain fashion that we paid less so what did we expect! On our last day there was no one to collect the key and we had to pop it through the window of the reception. You learn very quickly that there often traffic jams on the main Rock Road and to take the route over the hill to get into Nelson central.

Mr. Lindsay Scott

The location was excellent and the unit very well appointed. We had a good view of the snow capped mountains and of the sea. The only misgiving we had was that the unit did not get the sun any part of the day so we could not enjoy the balcony. we did several day trips including French Pass which was spectacular.

What this member liked most:

The Location. Nelson is the perfect place to stay and explore the northern attraction of the South Island. The sounds are spectacular and the roads in general are very good. The autumn colours were wonderful for the month of May this year, and with the weather being so nice we have plenty of good camera shots to remind us of our Southern Break.

Disappointed holiday stay

My husband and I spent a week at the Sands in Nelson, we were so looking forward to it as had read on the information that we got from DAE that the apartments were luxury apartments, I understood that we would not get a sea view witch was fine had no problem with the view but the lounge area of the suite was really of low standard furniture old and worn out crammed into a small area décor so poor I could not believe that this is what I had booked, no way could you sit and look out of a window only sit and look at a t v, I spoke to the manager who difficult to get hold of, did manage to get him to replace 4 light bulbs that still did not work and he had to get a electrician in to sort out the fault, they were aware of the lights not working before we arrived as they had put a standard lamp in the room with a wire going half way up the wall to a t v point to compensate for no lights working The centre piece of the shower was broken and has been for a while and he said all the apartments have that same problem its the make of the shower there was no décor in the place very bare did not feel like we were in a comfortable environment, would never recommend this place to anyone unless I was assured that they were getting something better than we got. I would like to hear your comments on this, I have booked other rentals through you in the pass both in NZ and overseas and never come across this before, When I spoke to the manager about the apartment he said that it was not a luxury apartment and that DAE should not be advertising it as such so thought you should know about this Regards Janet Purkis
