Bali. It’s the kind of place where you can fill your week with incredible experiences from one side of the island to the other, or completely relax as you lounge around a luxurious resort. Either way, you can enjoy the incredible food, the unbelievable scenery and the friendly hospitality of the locals no matter where you choose to stay.

WHERE TO GO TO UNWIND

Often known for its fast-paced lifestyle, bustling streets and vibrant party atmosphere, holiday makers travel far and wide to Bali for a taste of its best kept secret – relaxation, peace and wellness. Nestled amongst dense rainforests and lush green mountain ranges, Ubud has been dubbed the country’s wellness, spiritual and artistic hub. The untouched area is a hotspot for those seeking the ultimate escape, with no shortage of day spas, yoga retreats, relaxing hikes and places to unwind and connect with nature. If you’re seeking a waterside escape a world away from crowds, Candidasa is for you. Situated on the edge of a lagoon, browse local villages steeped in tradition and culture, enjoy relaxing walking trails and find secluded beaches at your fingertips.

MUST SEE ATTRACTIONS

Both the land and sea are the star attraction in Bali. About 40 minutes south of Kuta, Uluwatu is one of Bali’s most famous surf breaks – even if you’re not going for the waves, it’s still a must-visit on every itinerary. Experience the cheeky monkeys at the Uluwatu Temple while overlooking some of Bali’s most dramatic cliffscapes, then relax and watch the waves from one of the restaurants and bars overlooking the famed break. It’s worth the trek around the island to see as many of Bali’s amazing temples as you can. Don’t miss the Tanah Lot Temple in Beraban on the island’s west coast, north of Kuta. This ancient Hindu shrine is perched on a huge rock in the sea and surrounded by crashing waves. And as you travel around, you can’t miss seeing Bali’s rice terraces – lush green fields that are scattered all over the island, creating one of the most iconic and tranquil sights.

BEST DAY CLUBS

In Bali, it’s not all about the nightlife – in fact, exclusive Day Clubs can be found around much of the island, allowing you to make the most of the spectacular daylight hours in paradise. Home to one of Bali’s best sunset views overlooking the ocean, it’s no surprise why so many travellers choose Potato Head Beach Club in Seminyak to dance, eat and drink the afternoon away. If a brew with a view from a divine infinity pool tickles your fancy, Ulu Cliffhouse serves up just that. Uluwatu’s clifftop playground is renowned for world class food, drink and entertainment amongst some of Bali’s best raw natural beauty.

MARKETS & MOUTHFULS

You’re sure to find a bargain in Bali. The island paradise is renowned across the globe as one of the most affordable shopping destinations on offer. Simply walk the streets of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Ubud and find stalls lining the roads with fashion, art, jewellery, souvenirs and everything in between. If finding the best street food is on your itinerary, the Kuta Night Market is a prime spot to snap up some local favourites at very affordable prices including the nasi goreng and Gulai Kambing (lamb stew). Bali is arguably home to the world’s best sate – and the delicious nutty sauce can be found drizzled over all meat varieties at the Pasar Kereneng Market in Denpasar.

GETTING AROUND

Because of the small size of the island, no matter where you are staying in Bali, you can explore all the best highlights within a few hours’ drive. Taxis are an extremely affordable way to get around the southern part of the island – the best tip is to use the more reputable Blue Bird Taxis. If you want to explore around for a few hours, ask at your resort to recommend a driver for a day or half day of touring the sights. If you are not going far, hiring a motorised scooter is another affordable option – but always be sure to wear a helmet and ride with caution.
